CIGAL Reference Manual, Chapter 9 (Troubleshooting): Hanging

Troubleshooting -- CIGAL hangs during initialization

Problem: CIGAL starts but hangs indefinitely during device initialization

Cause: The problem is likely caused by an external device being in an unusable state. The Measurement Computing analog/digital USB device sometimes has this problem (seems to depend on what the previous user of that device was doing).

Solution: Unplugging and then replugging the USB cable to the device is the simplest solution. If that does not work, then powering down and then restarting your computer should help (power down first, don't just reboot).

Note: At the BIAC scanners the USB device is located in the scanner equipment room. On both scanners the USB cable is labelled “MC USB”.
BIAC5: Find the cable marked “MC USB” where it enters the black multi-USB connector box, sitting on the floor behind the PC computer rack just inside the door in the equipment room. Unplug the cable, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
BIAC3: Find the cable marked “MC USB” where it enters the black A/D connection box, sitting on top of the PC computer rack at the far end of the equipment room. Unplug the cable, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
