As input, ShowPlay requires a text file with a '.ppf' extension. The two types of information needed for a '.ppf' file to run in showplay are listed below. These two parts of the ppf file must appear in this order with a 'return' statement at the end of the paradigm parameters settings and a blank line between them.

• Paradigm parameter settings
• Character strings
• Number variables
• stimulus list
• file types
• commands

(Note: text files with a '.txt' extension will also run if the file contains the requisite information, but the '.ppf' extension is convention and is useful in distinguishing your stimulus files from other text files.)
