Labeled Atlas

A useful tool in the MNI Atlas workspace is the labeled image. A colour-coded sample of the brain is found in the image mni_atlas. Open this image from the workspace, expand the 'View' tab and select either the tiled or 3-plane view(depending on personal preference) to show the image properly. A rough map of the brain will appear, with specific colour-coding. Using the cursor, click on different areas of the brain and a new window will open labeling the selected section.

The labeled map can be overlaid with the user's own data to provide reference points for the anatomical images. Selecting the labeled map, and then one of the anatomical files(image 300 demonstrates the clearest results), overlay the two images. Employing the same alignment tools used in overlaying the functional and anatomical files, adjust the overlaid labeled map to the anatomical image. The result will link the labels from the atlas to the anatomical image, so that by selecting any particular area of the image, a window will open with the appropriate section of the brain. This can be a useful tool as a reference point when analysing the behavioural and functional data.
