Experimental Control System

DVD Player

There is a DVD video player (SAMSUNG DVD/CD/MP3 Player, DVD-s221, CD-r/rw compatible) at each scanner. The DVD player is connected to a video converter box that turns the normal TV video signal (NTSC) into a computer video signal (VGA). This DVD video signal is then connected to the video switch so that it can be displayed on a computer monitor or our video projector or video goggle devices.

To operate the DVD player, press the 'power' button on the left, press the 'open/close' button on the right to open the slot, insert a DVD, and press play. Use the remote control to fastforward or rewind. Pressing 'stop' once will save the location and start from there next time you press 'play'; pressing stop twice will cause it to start at '0:00' the next time you press play.

To see the DVD output, use the video switch software to select which display devices (monitor, projector, goggles) get DVD input (source channel 4). To see the DVD on a monitor you can also press cntrl + ~) on that monitor's keyboard and use the arrow keys to highlight 'input 4'; then press 'Enter', then 'ESC'.

To hear the DVD sound, use the audio switches to select which audio devices (speakers, headphones) get DVD input (input channel 3).
