CIGAL Reference Manual, Chapter 1 (Topics): philosophy
Philosophy -- CIGAL design
The basic philosophy embedded within CIGAL is flexibility:
data variables can be accessed directly from any memory storage device
data items can be a wide range of data types
data variables can be of any size
all or part of any variable can be used for almost any operation
if hardware isn't available for an operation, software emulates it
if a predefined command isn't available for an operation, write a macro
