ShowPlay Reference Manual, Chapter 1 (Introduction): Images

Manipulating how images are displayed in a real-time paradigm

You can modify the display of image stimuli in a ShowPlay paradigm by changing the values of the display control variables. Some of these can be changed interactively using the Display menu.

Display control variables:

  • flipflag - 0=default, 1=horizontal flip, 2=vertical flip, 3=flip both
  • widscale - horizontal size scale factor (default=1.0)
  • hgtscale - vertical size scale factor (default=1.0)
  • rgbscale - color brightness scale factor (default=1.0)

Note: These display control variables only work properly if your stimuli are images (i.e., JPEG or PCX files). They are applied when the images are pre-loaded just before running the paradigm. Explicit text stimuli and videos do not get pre-loaded so these display control variables do not currently work for such stimuli. If you need to flip or scale text stimuli you should first save each stimulus as a JPEG image.
