ShowPlay Reference Manual, Chapter 3 (ControlVariables): correctcode

Correctcode -- Use event ID's to indicate correct responses

When you create your Showplay stimulus list, you can use the ID value in each stimulus line to identify which response key would be a “correct” response for that stimulus. The ID value is a number and you use 1 digit of that number to indicate correct responses (i.e., the 1's, 10's, 100's digit). If the CORRECTCODE parameter is non-zero, it indicates which digit is being used.

CORRECTCODE can only have values 1, 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000, 1000000, or 10000000.

To make use of this feature, you need to do the following:

  1. choose which digit in the ID value you want to use
  2. set CORRECTCODE to the value of that digit (i.e., 1, 10, 100, etc).
  3. assign a number code 1-9 for each type of response you might expect. These codes should be assigned to logical responses, such as YES vs NO, LEFT vs RIGHT, or a rating scale (1-9). The codes do not need to correspond to codes that come from actual response devices (see below). A 0 in the CORRECTCODE digit means there is no correct response.
  4. calibrate the subject response codes by assigning each logical response code above to a physical button code. This can be done by setting each response code explicitly, or by using the mapresponses command.
  5. if you want real-time feedback on the accuracy of subject responses, set the FEEDBACKFLAG parameter.
